Chinese medical experts publish monograph on MDR-TB
  • “Diagnostic Imaging of Drug Resistant Pulmonary Tuberculosis,” a monograph on multi-drug resistance tuberculosis (MDR-TB), was officially launched online Feb. 25.

Co-authored by Lu Puxuan, the editor-in-chief of the Electronic Journal of Emerging Infectious Diseases, Lu Hongzhou, president of the Shenzhen Third People's Hospital, and Yi Yongxiang, a chief physician with the Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, the monograph discusses prevention, treatment, and diagnostic imaging of various types of MDR-TB. This provides Chinese solutions to the World Health Organization's strategy to end tuberculosis by 2035.

The monograph features contributions from over 80 renowned experts involved in MDR-TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and basic research. It is divided into 17 chapters and includes topics like disease overview, occurrence and prevalence, laboratory examinations, pathogenesis and diagnosis, and differential diagnosis.

This monograph also contains classic MDR-TB case studies that provide users with comprehensive descriptions and in-depth analysis. Additionally, the monograph includes a section focused on AI-assisted research, the application of AI in MDR-TB diagnosis, and trending research topics such as dynamic changes in imaging during MDR-TB treatment.

This serves as an important reference for medical staff, government managers, and medical students at home and abroad who are engaged in clinical and research related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of MDR-TB.

According to the WHO's Global Tuberculosis Report 2023, there were 10.6 million new cases of tuberculosis worldwide in 2022. Eight countries accounted for more than two thirds of the global total, with India, Indonesia, and China accounting for 27%, 10%, and 7.1%, respectively.
